Silver Ships Delivers Second Marine Assist Vessel to Tow Boat U.S. Long Beach
Mobile, Ala. (April 11, 2022) – Silver Ships is pleased to announce its second build and delivery for Tow Boat U.S. Long Beach, California.
The 30-foot AM800 vessel is custom designed and outfitted for use as an offshore marine assist and tow vessel supporting operations at Tow Boat U.S. and is equipped for extreme, extended offshore conditions. It is built with underwater seams that are continuously welded inside and outside and using 5086 H32 grade aluminum plates, with each bottom plate being a minimum ¼-inch thick.
The vessel features an extended beam, full walk around cabin with additional storage and equipment suitable for marine assists. Also featured is an on-board de-watering system, an asset for marine assist vessels. The vessel includes a top-of-the-line FLIR camera providing long range, low light visibility with thermal integration to facilitate both nighttime navigations, as well as search and rescue capabilities.
To extend range, Tow Boat U.S. Long Beach transitioned from more traditional fiberglass boats in 2017 to the Silver Ships AM800 platform. As a result of this transition, the organization has experienced a significant increase in response range with a simultaneous reduction in response time. The AM800 vessel affords a safer platform to work from, and allows the capability to tow, jump start, and drop fuel. Crew members can also perform salvage work with the on-board equipment including lift bags, air tanks and a gas-powered de-watering pump.
“Our team is committed to providing solutions to the challenges our customers face in their day-to-day operations on the water,” said Dave Hunt, Business Development at Silver Ships. “The first vessel we designed and built for Tow Boat U.S. Long Beach provided immediate results for its operators, and we’re happy for the opportunity to continue helping them build out a fleet that is best equipped and ready to help their clients in need.”
Silver Ships is thrilled to announce that this vessel, Huntington Beach, was named a Top workboat of 2021 by Marine News. The magazine highlighted the vessels unique design, and the specific safety features. Additionally, this workboat assisted in saving the lives of two mariners clinging to their submerged vessel 17 miles off the coast. This award is an honor, and Silver Ships is eager to continue creating custom vessels for marine assist missions.
