Silver Ships Delivers Patrol Vessel to East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office
Silver Ships, Inc. announces the delivery of its latest multi-mission fire/rescue and patrol vessel for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The 42-foot vessel’s primary purpose is to support law enforcement operations on the Mississippi River, primarily near Baton Rouge. It also provides a firefighting capability to support the broader mission of Joint Task Force 7 (JTF-7). East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office is a part of JTF-7, which is a partnership made up of seven parish Sheriffs, the Port of Greater Baton Rouge, federal, state and local partners in law enforcement, along with private sector interests. This multi-jurisdictional cooperative exists to protect lives and critical infrastructure in the area that is vital to national security.
“We are always working to invest in new equipment and technology to keep our citizens safe, and this patrol vessel is going to be a huge factor when it comes to implementing rescue missions, patrol and patient care on the water,” said Captain Micah Bourgeois. “The vessel is outfitted to fully cater to both our officers’ needs and to contribute to our parish’s overall public safety and will play a critical role in supporting various missions for Joint Task Force 7.”
The vessel was primarily funded through the Port Security Grant Program through the Department of Homeland Security. It is powered by twin Cummins QSB6.7 diesel engines with Konrad 680B stern drives. The integrated firefighting system includes a PTO driven Darley 1500 GPM fire pump with three fire monitors. In addition to the roof mounted electric remote fire monitor, the vessel also includes two manual monitors on the port and starboard sides of the aft working deck.
In addition to the firefighting systems, other notable features include a Carlisle and Finch Nightfinder 2000 High Powered Searchlight with Integrated FLIR, heavy-duty hydraulic bow thruster for station-keeping during firefighting operations, a four-foot Open Array radar for better penetration of fog during low visibility conditions, side scan sonar to support recovery and search operations and more.
“It’s been a privilege to work with Captain Bourgeois and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office to construct a vessel fully equipped to handle various water-based emergencies,” said David Hunt, Project Manager for Silver Ships. “With the delivery of this multi-mission vessel, the Sheriff’s Office and JTF-7 will fill a critical capability gap in their mission to guard and protect their citizens.”
